They don’t make ‘em like they used to.
I used to write loads of tunes on this little beauty! Mostly when I couldn’t be bothered to dig out the Cubase floppies and plug in the old PSS 590. I wish I could find those tunes now… but the floppies are all gone now.
You see… I had installed the Command and Conquer game on the PC from some floppies my friend had given me. Floppies that happened to contain a virus that inverted the mouse orientation (down=up etc). My dad decided that the best way to get rid of the virus was to delete the game files… specifically, a file called COMMAND.COM…
I had to rescue the computer by backing up all my dad’s files onto floppies in DOS. Which mostly resulted in the loss of whatever was on the floppies beforehand. Including all of my old Quartet and Cubase songs.
What was anyone else’s first experience of using computers to make music?
